My friend Marianne sent me her unique insight on this saying:
Philippians 4:13 --- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Original: The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success. Pass it on to ten people whom you want to see blessed. Don't forget to send it back to the one who sent
My Version: Marianne 10:59am-- I can do all things through ME by my own strength
The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called YOUR CAR, BART, MUNI or ANY OTHER PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, insurance called GEICO & KAISER,a driver called YOURSELF, you will make it to a place called "THIS IS IT". Pass it on to ten people whom you think that has it worst than you and pat yourself on the back and say "I'M GLAD I'M IN MY SHOES THAN YOURS"!!! HAAHA
| I am officially a grad student... | | |
| I'm back on xanga...again...haha. So...here's what's been going on with me lately...
Thanks everyone for the congrats! I officially started my new job 2 weeks ago. Yup, I chose work over a good grad school. But, that's not all. I also got into the MPA program @ CSU, so I'll be taking classes after work and getting my Masters Degree in 2 years. So, I still get to go to grad school and I still was able to accept the promotion...Nice eh? I just hope I made the right decision. No regrets, huh.
On September 1, it was me and Richard's 10 year anniversary! WOW! 10 years!!! It was 10 years ago that day in 1997 that we officially became boyfriend/girlfriend...We knew each other well before that, and it just brought us closer through the years. I miss him so much! Long distance is really hard, but definitely worth it if he's the right person and the one you love. Here is to many, many, MANY more years to come!

On to other stories - Last night was super fun. I went with some of my co-workers to what we called an "older-people" club. hahaha. That's because the majority of folks there looked old enough to be my parents, my teacher, or my boss. HAHAHA. I swear, I think I saw some grandparents there too! Shoot, when I'm that old I want to be able to dance like that too! LOL. It was definitely fun though! We spent most of that time dancing to music from the 70's, 80's and 90's, with a few modern tunes mixed in. And when we weren't dancing, we were secretly making fun of the characters we saw there. This one guy kept dancing on the go-go stage ALL night and probably changed his shirt 6 times during that whole time. Dang, I wish I had that much energy. He was kinda scary though. Then there was this other couple with a huge age difference that it just looked too gross when they were "grinding" on the dance floor...The guy couldn't even dance, he just kept moving his hips towards the girl. EEWWW. When everyone was doing the electric slide (yes, the whole dance floor tried to do it in-step), that same guy was lost and kept going in the wrong direction, still grinding his hips. YUCK, some of us were cringing at the sight. It was like watching a bad train wreck that you couldn't take your eyes off of. Pictures below (sorry, no pics of the weird couple).

Now, about the Southborder, Top Suzara, Lani Misalucha concert that I went to a few weeks ago. IT WAS AWESOME!!! I love the songs from Southborder, plus Top Suzara sang songs from his former group Freestyle! I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! Rather than going into detail, here are some video clips that I took with my camera. ENJOY!
"Once In A Lifetime" - Top Suzara
"Before I Let You Go" - Top Suzara
"Sabihin Mo Na" - Top Suzara
"Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang" - Top Suzara and Nikki Valdez
"Love of My Life" - Southborder
"Ikaw Nga" - Southborder
"Kahit Kailan" - Southborder & Top Suzara
"You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" - Lani Misalucha

| I GOT INTO ANOTHER GRAD SCHOOL!!!
I just found out late Friday afternoon. I got an email from the Director of the UCD MPH program himself, on my work email address (which I didn't even put on my application), saying "CONGRATULATIONS! I am delighted to offer you admission to the University of California, Davis Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree program." He probably kept my work email from when I emailed him earlier this year inquiring about the program. This will be the first year that they are accepting non-health professionals. Previously, the program was exclusively for those with professional degrees or are in the process of obtaining one (i.e. doctors, nurses, med students, vet students, etc.). So, it's a wonderful feeling that they want me in their "starting" class! Even better that I'm a current UC Davis employee. If I continue working for UC Davis, they'll reduce the tuition by two-thirds!!! TWO-THIRDS!!! Only thing is, this is an accelerated-type of MPH degree, so I doubt if I'll even have time to work...Plus, even if I get a reduced tuition, I need to consider my living expenses over there....*sigh*
Another good news that I have...
I GOT A JOB OFFER/PROMOTION!!!
I just found out about this Wednesday afternoon. I got called into one of the chief's offices and apparently I beat out the other top applicants. I heard there were like 16 applicants or something...Nice title, better pay, I get my own laptop for when I travel, and I get my own Blackberry. But...if I accept this job, I definitely can't go to UC Davis or the other schools I got into...I could, however, go to school part-time and get my Master's in the same amount of time it would've taken me if I had gone to the UCs. Instead of my MPH, I would get my MPA (Masters in Public Administration), but with an emphasis in health care administration...
Pros - some of what I mentioned above. I'd get my Masters Degree in the same amount of time. I'll be gaining valuable work experience. I won't be a broke grad student (well, at least not terribly broke). I won't be far away from home (I'm a homebody...I can't help it)...An MPA seems to have more options later on, professionally...
Con - I'll be turning down some really good schools...
It seems like nowadays, it doesn't necessarily matter what grad school you went to (unless you go to Harvard and want to impress everybody), but what matters more is the type of experience you have. At least this is what I've noticed when my work tries to hire the right people. I already have my bachelors degree from Berkeley. Hopefully, that counts enough...hahaha...
Aahhh...decisions to make as a grown-up...ain't it lovely??...
| I watched "Live Free or Die Hard" today with my parents and my aunt. That movie is really one of the best action movie's I've seen lately. Bruce Willis is the ultimate action hero!! Awesome, awesome, awesome movie...definitely a must see!
Crystal actually thought it was surprising how much both my parents love action movies. haha. Ever since I was a kid, they've been taking me to go see action movies. hahaha...
Next movies I want to see are "Hairspray" and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry"...Anybody want to go???
Anyway....here's a song I keep listening to...nice oldie but goodie ...
